His hair is beginning to show signs of greying, keeping it relatively short and styled to maintain a professional appearance whilst his skin is starting to show the formation of wrinkles. Despite the aging process, he is a fit individual who often jogs to maintain fitness in order to maintain his usefulness to the Resistance cause. Caran still carries himself as if he were the Imperial officer of his glory days, but now he dresses far less formally and enjoys that freedom. Still, he keeps himself well presented. Beneath his clothes, his body is covered in scars from wounds left to heal as a testament to the many trials he has gone through in his lifetime of service to the Empire before jumping ship.

Personality & Traits

Personality Profile Ruthless and calculating and with a keen strategic eye, Caran Azulas was the perfect Imperial officer for many years as he worked his way up through the ranks until he commanded his own Star Destroyer. As master and commander of the Star Destroyer Dominance, Commander Caran Azulas commanded one of the Imperial Starfleet's most fierce weapons at its disposal. But as a talented leader and diplomat, Caran managed to bring the very best out of ship and crew in a wide variety of situations, making all of her combined technologies just as important whether on a mission within the confines of Imperial space, or in pursuit of the Rebellion. Adored and respected by those under his command, Azulas had a reputation for being firm but fair and would stop at nothing to achieve his objectives and help his crew carry out their missions. A firm believer in the Imperial cause, the Commander's belief in the Empire was crushed in the days after the Emperor's death above the forest moon of Endor.

Since then, he has become a quiet, reserved and somewhat uptight individual as he tries desperately to stay out of the grip of the new First Order. He tries his utmost to keep a low profile and avoid confrontation, often opting to take on solo missions for General Organa so that he only has to rely on himself, or his favourite little companion - a BD unit droid known as BD-7.
Strengths & Weaknesses A talented tactician with a good command head on his shoulders, Caran is a good man to be around in a crunch situation. His time with the Empire and his past links to people at Imperial Command ensured he built up quite the military acumen. He keeps himself well versed in current events and details of a strategic nature as part of his new role with the Resistance. He has been known to have a bit of a rebellious streak and will often do things his way, which sometimes makes things more difficult than they need to be. He is hindered by a sever inability to trust those around him, given his past and his need to keep a low profile. It takes an awful lot for him to class a person as a friend and even more effort to earn his respect. It takes a lot for people to impress him, so aspiring friends beware.
Ambitions When he was growing up, in the throngs of the Galactic Empire, Caran would often dream about commanding his own Star Destroyer and being a loyal servant of the Emperor. When the Rebellion won their victory at Endor, and the Empire began to crumble, Caran began to see for himself the truth of what the Empire represented to so many - a ruthless, oppressive regime that curtailed the most basic of freedoms of so many. When he joined the Resistance several years later, Caran vowed to do everything he could to undo all of the pain and suffering the Empire had caused. As a member of General Organa's intelligence unit, he aims to be on the front lines when the First Order is brought to its knees.

Historical Data

Personal History Growing up on Corellia at the height of the Galactic Empire, it was almost written in the stars that he would go on to become a highly successful Imperial officer. Son of two Imperial officers stationed on the planet, he was practically indoctrinated in the ways of the Empire before he signed up to join the Imperial Academy. For a few years he enjoyed success as a pilot with the TIE squadrons on the Imperial Star Destroyer Victory before fate would intervene.

When looking for a man he could trust to join him at the secretive Imperial Security Bureau, newly appointed Inspector General Garrick Versio, convinced that Imperial strength was necessary to maintain order in the galaxy, took Caran with him. Once at the Bureau, Caran began several years of intelligence work and swiftly rose through the ranks, serving loyally alongside Admiral Versio aboard the Star Destroyer Eviscerator until he was given his own command of the Star Destroyer Dominance in the aftermath of the Imperial assault on the planet Hoth. Commander Azulas was one of the youngest officers to assume command of a Star Destroyer, doing so when the ships previous commander simply disappeared in the wake of the failed attack on the Rebel stronghold.

Caran commanded the Dominance throughout several battles with the Rebellion as the Empire hunted them for almost a year until finally, they clashed at the battle of Endor in 4ABY. As the Rebel fleet engaged their Imperial foes, Dominance sat alongside the Eviscerator, battling for supremacy until Admiral Piett's flagship, the Executor, crashed into the Death Star and was ultimately destroyed. With the Emperor, his Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader and the rest of the fleet in tatters, Admiral Versio ordered the Dominance to rendezvous with the Eviscerator above the planet Vardos.

In the year that followed, Dominance became embroiled in several key battles with the Rebellion, or the New Republic as they became known, but Caran's unwavering loyalty began to be questioned. When he became aware of Operation: Cinder, the Emperor's plan to destroy the remnants of the Empire and build a stronger, greater Empire out of its ashes, Caran began to see for himself the true horror that the Empire was capable of. With loyal worlds such as Vardos (Garrick's own homeworld) decimated at their hands, Caran and his crew were beginning to question everything they had believed in, everything they had ever known.

At the final battle of the Galactic Civil War, on the planet Jakku, Caran and a group of his most loyal officers saw an opportunity to do something small, but something that would deal a blow to the Empire. In the heat of the battle, on the bridge of the Dominance, Caran and his loyalists killed several of the bridge crew who would not join their cause. With nothing to stop them, the team initiated the Star Destroyer's self-destruct sequence. They battled their way through the corridors of the Dominance, and whilst not all survived, most of his group managed to flee the ship before it exploded in orbit, fragments of the mighty ships hull falling to the planet below.

Traitors of the Empire and no doubt unwelcome in the New Republic, Caran and his team went their separate ways, with many taking on new identities as they tried to make new lives for themselves in the post-Imperial era they found themselves in. Caran settled on Abregado-Rae for over a decade until his past came back to haunt him. With a new First Order rising, word reached the new 'Empire' of Caran's location. Still considered a traitor for his actions years before, a team of elite Commandos were sent to kill Caran. He tried his best to evade the unit, managing to kill two of the six-man team before he was captured. Just as he was about to be executed, there was an explosion in the room and a hail of blaster fire until all of the troopers were dead. As the smoke settled, Caran was confronted by several well armed soldiers wearing the crest of the new Resistance. Although they rescued Caran from certain death, he was captured and taken to a Resistance base on a hitherto unnamed world where he finally met none other than General Leia Organa herself.

Organa explained how the First Order had come to know of Caran's location, and also that the Resistance had been seeking him out for a while in order to enlist him against the Republic's new enemy. Organa appealed to Caran's sense of responsibility for all that he had done during his time with the Empire and framed this new opportunity as a chance to atone for his past mistakes. Agreering to join the Resistance, Caran embarked on a Resistance Intelligence mission, tasked with infiltration of the criminal network known as Shadow Troopers. It was near the end of his assignment that he was headhunted for membership of an elite group of pilots known as Rogue Squadron. Although it had been years since he had flown fighters, he was intrigued at the prospect and agreed to join the unit.
