Mission:
Scoundrels, Cuttthroats and Rogues
Location: Tobuk Chal Lanna
Timeline: Day 4 at 0800
The trip onboard the Tobuk Chal Lanna was by far and large one of the most uncomfortable in Melvyn's life - way up there, right behind that one time he'd had to stay cooped up in his fighter for over eighteen hours on high alert status. Traveling in a crowded, antiquated freighter full of rebels who hated his guts was only a marginally more pleasant experience than simmering in his own body waste.
He strove to give them all space, especially the wookie, but that was a near impossible endeavour in such close quarters so as a compromise he stuck closer to Kor and Onye whenever possible, having identified them as the two people who disliked him the least. And, well, aside from that there was a great deal of boredom to face. Usually he would have read or watched something on his datapad, but that datapad was back in his old quarters on the Exterminator. In a last ditch attempt to keep himself busy and gain some goodwill in the process he'd offered to work on the Tobuk Chal Lanna or on the broken speeder but Tawshii had made it quite clear what he thought of that. Vociferously and quite vulgarly too.
As a result, the announcement that they were getting close to their destination was welcome news. Melvyn wasn't exactly invited to the briefing that followed but since everyone had gathered into the communal area, he figured they would not object to him sticking around. He found a discreet spot by the door and watched, curious to find out exactly where they'd ended up. This may be his opportunity to jump ship - he wasn't sure he'd survive another long hyperspace jump on the same ship as Tawshii.
It hadn't escaped Haro's attention that Melvyn remained in proximity to Kor and Onye wherever possible. The younger man didn't push for friendship any more than he fought for rivalry, but he did keep a very close eye on this stranger. Kor was easy on the eyes and a trusted ally from the rebels' point of view, unproven by this crew's standards but not overly suspicious either. Melvyn was a wild card. If he could betray the Imperials, he could betray the Rebels... Still the man wore Haro's own clothes, had been given food and shelter and suffered some with regards his recent life choices. Haro held no overt hatred for him, but it was too early for trust.
As he walked silently up behind Melvyn, Haro rested a hand on the man's shoulder and spoke with a confident air. "C'mon in and take a seat," he suggested, giving him a nudge towards the others and the comfortable seating worked in around two fixed tables.
Tawshii's dark gaze scoured the room from his own confidently held stance mid-floor and waited for everyone to sit down. If anyone here couldn't be trusted, they'd find out soon enough.
Onyesonwu had been trying to help Melvyn fit in, talking and working with him. Whether or not they could trust the ex-Imp, that was up to Tawshii. To Onye, Melvyn seemed a good sort, even if he did hold tight to that enormous chip on his shoulder. She suspected he worried for his cousin.
Now that the 'Chal was nearing their destination and they prepared for real action, Onye took the seat where she felt most comfortable and could share her anticipation and excitement - next to Haro.
It had been a comfortable but uneasy trip through hyperspace. The dizzying reversals of fortune for the last few days had kept Kor a little on the edgy side. But now as the announcement came out that they were nearing their destination, she had to focus. She entered the lounge where Tawshii, Haro and Onye were gathering. The tiny wrap around 'skirt' she wore certainly made her legs rather obviously visible. Kor had been glad for the change of clothes Onye had supplied her, but they were definately not her size either in length or in containing her curves. But it was comfortable.
She lifted a leg over the chair as she dropped into the seat. "Ok, so what's the plan for this caper?"
Tawshii launched into an effusive and demonstrative monologue, hand gestures imitating ship motions and head motions contributing to the dramatic telling of his ideas. For anyone who didn't understand Shyriiwook, Haro translated the basics in a quietly confident tone.
"We're going to drop out of lightspeed into the Jaemus System," Haro spoke of the wookiee's theatre, like an old school narrator. He initially kept his eye-line on Kor's left thigh, then shifted abruptly upwards to encompass all those gathered in turn. "Right in the thick of the Kolia Breaking Yard." He grimaced as he added. "State the Chal's currently in, we'll blend right in. With a patented," Haro looked to Onye, "minimal power coast, we're gonna slip straight in on the opposite side to the active destruction. KBY exclusively uses droid labour so long as we're on the outskirts of their attentions we should be good."
There was a yowl from Tawshii, that didn't need much translation.
"Fingers crossed," added Haro.
"With a good bit of luck and expert scavenging," added Onye with a nod to Haro, "We may find a couple of salvageable old starfighters there, maybe even an X-wing, that can be repaired… provided we also manage to scavenge appropriate parts for them." In addition to the parts we still need for the Tobuk Chal Lanna, she signed.
Relying on luck and other people's incompetence was a poor way to plan a mission in Melvyn's opinion, but he knew better than to voice his misgivings. Instead he tried to muster the slightest bit of enthusiasm.
He had been thinking of jumping ship at the earliest opportunity but this was clearly not an option at the moment. The Kolia yard would be a death trap for him if he was identified. And then... Well. He kind of felt like he did owe his traveling companion, beatings and interrogations notwithstanding, for saving his life. At least he owed them enough to make sure they would be fine before he made a run for it.
Kor nodded at Onye's plan. "I admit, we need any set of wings we can get our hands on. I just dont think we will have much time for prolonged foraging. You get what you need for the ship here, Melvyn and I will grab anything that looks like it won't kill us to fly. Hopefully something with a hyperdrive that we can jump the hell out of there. If not a set of magnetic grapplers to fasten them to the Tobuk Chal Lanna. The rebellion is desperate and we will take what we can find, I've lost a lot on this whole Nar Shadda fiasco, but we need to not leave empty handed."
